Cleric or Chanter? Back at Square One

*sigh* I think I’ve edited my previous post to reflect on which class in Aion I’m going to play 4 or 5 times now. I edit it to say that I’m going to roll a Cleric, then I edit again and pick Chanter (rinse, repeat) and now I’m conflicted again. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, check out my previous post about Aion, the newest NCsoft game coming out September 22. I’m gearing up for the final beta week starting this weekend and hope to get a chance at trying out both so I can decide which class is best for me. One minute I think I’m going to be a Cleric, the next minute I change my mind to Chanter.

In the meantime, I’ve been doing loads of reading to see which Priest class in Aion fits me best. As most of you know, I played a Druid healer in WoW for a long, long time and really loved being a Resto main healer. However, Druids are a hybrid class, and when it was time to go solo either in PvE or PvP, I could hold my own, too. At first I thought that Cleric was my obvious choice, and then I read another article and suddenly think that Chanter might be where it’s at for me. Chanters are more of a hybrid that can DPS and manage spot heals for support while Cleric is the main healer with loads of heals under their belt for group support. Do I want to be a healbot or a hybrid?  Yesterday I was positive I was going to be a Cleric. Then I read this article. Now I’m back at square one.

In a perfect world the answer is to base the choice on my playstyle, but in reality my playstyle is a little bit of both, so how do I choose? Quirky Quiescene didn’t make my decision any easier because now both sound equally appealing and equally needed and viable throughout the game. The only one thing I’m sure of is the server I am picking, which is Siel. I guess I’ll just have to roll one of each and see which one I enjoy playing the most.

I’m actually considering rolling a cleric as well in Aion. The chanter didn’t seem like a very fun one to play. I’m going to give that article u linked, a read. Maybe I’ll reconsider as well.

Open beta starts in 2 days!!

Should come to Nezekan and heal me! I’m a Templar so I’ll take cleric or chanter but prefer chanter :P And I’m on the southside of indy too.

If you want to DPS too though, don’t count out clerics.. my guild mates have been playing China Aion for the past few months, many of them 40+.. They have another name for Clerics.. they call them “Sorcs with Heals” so take that for what its worth.

Wooo for the southside of Indy representing!

Just as a side note, even though I missed this comment way back then (sorry!) — I tried out Chanter after leveling up my Cleric some, and found that I definitely preferred my Cleric. I’m not sure why or what it was, but I had a better feel (maybe it’s my playstyle?) with Cleric vs. Chanter once I got to play them.
