Hallow’s End ’06 Walkthrough

THANK YOU for your support of this guide – I appreciate the World of Warcraft official website front page mention! AND the WoW Stratics front page mention! WoW Stratics was also granted permission to post the guide on their website here.

I love in-game seasonal events. Today marks the beginning of the celebrated Hallow’s End festivities, which run from October 18 – November 1, 2006 this year. Hallow’s End is observed by both Horde and Alliance, and celebrates the break between the Forsaken and the Scourge. From a lore standpoint, I’m not 100% sure why this is observed by the Alliance, but I don’t care because in-game seasonal holidays are way too fun to nitpick. Sorry, Hordies, this article is aimed at the event from an Alliance point of view.

During this spooky season, adventurers can go trick-or-treating by speaking with any of the innkeepers across Azeroth. Simply choose “Trick or Treat!” when you talk with them, and you will either be tricked (and subsequently turned into various forms like a worm, cat, or wisp), or treated with a little treat bag. Right click on the treat bag for your treats. Treats include things like candy, costume wands, or flimsy masks. Personally, my favorites are the masks because they’re a little oversized and very cheesy… it’s pure genius. They come in the full variety of races and both male and female versions. The wands have a 5 charge use on them and there’s a couple of different varieties of costume wands available: leper gnome, ninja, bat, or random just to name a few. The masks are worn in your head slot, and the effects of the wands last 60 minutes. There is a 60 minute cooldown in between when you can “Trick or Treat!” an innkeeper.

Help An Orphan
A fun quest line you can complete during this season is “Hallow’s End Treats for Jesper!” There is an orphan (Alliance-side, his name is Jesper) who is too sick to go out trick-or-treating for himself. Your job is to go and get the candy for him! How sweet :)

Jesper can be found in the Stormwind Orphanage, which is located in the Cathedral Square of Stormwind City at coordinates 47,35.

Description:

I want to go trick-or-treating, but I can’t because I’m sick. If you go for me, I’d trade you the candy you get for some I already have! I think you’d like this candy – it makes you turn into things both funny and scary!

Each of the innkeepers in the big cities have candy they give for Hallow’s End – talk to them and do the tricks they ask for! Also, a little gnome named Talvash in Ironforge is handing out candy as well. When you have all the candy, bring them back to me here!

Objectives:

Speak with the innkeepers of Stormwind, Ironforge, and Darnassus, as well as Talvash del Kissel in Ironforge. Perform the tricks they ask of you in exchange for the treats they offer.

Return to Jesper at the Stormwind Orphanage with a Darnassus Marzipan, Gnomeregan Gumdrop, Stormwind Nougat, and Ironforge Mint.

Rewards:

You will receive 99 silver (or xp, in the range of 1650ish or depending on level instead of silver unless you’re a capped character- thanks for pointing that out, Ramjet!) and a stack of 30 Hallow’s End Pumpkin Treats. Their use text says, “Enjoy a tasty Hallow’s End treat! Better eat it quick before they go bad…” The duration limit on them indicates that Hallow’s End Pumpkin Treats go bad in 14 days.

Special Note:

To finish this, you will need to complete 4 mini-quests, one with each innkeeper, to gather the necessary candies needed for Jesper.

Stormwind Nougat

Eastern Kingdoms
Speak with Innkeeper Allison by the Stormwind Bank at 52,65. She will give you a little mini-quest called “Flexing for Nougat” – simply target her and perform the /flex emote, and she will give you the candy you need for Jesper.

Ironforge Mint
Eastern Kingdoms
Speak with Innkeeper Firebrew in The Commons at 18,51. He will give you a little mini-quest called “Chicken Clucking For Mint” – simply target him and perform the /chicken emote, and he will give you the candy you need for Jesper.

Gnomeregan Gumdrop (Ironforge)
Eastern Kingdoms
Talvash de Kissel is a gnome standing on the front porch of a house in the Mystic Ward of Ironforge. If you’re standing out in front of the Hall of Mysteries, the building is to the right of the entrance along the same wall at coordinates 36,3. He will give you a little mini-quest called “Incoming Gumdrop” – simply target him and perform the /train emote, and he will give you the candy you need for Jesper.

Darnassus Marzipan
Kalimdor

Speak with Innkeeper Saelienne in the Craftsmen’s Terrace at 67,15. She will give you a little mini-quest called “Dancing for Marzipan” – simply target her and perform the /dance emote, and she will give you the candy you need for Jesper.

Now return to Jesper in Stormwind for your rewards!

End Text:

Have you finished trick-or-treating yet? I’m sad that I can’t go because I’m sick, but you helping me out makes me feel a little better…

Continue…

Wow, you got them all! You’re awesome!

Thank you for trick-or-treating for me. Here, take these pumpkin treats – I think you’ll like them a lot!

Happy Hallow’s End, Name!

The Hallow’s End Pumpkin Treats have a couple of different effects when eaten. One effect can cause you to levitate and turn into “ghost form” for 20 minutes when eaten. It is rumored that last Hallow’s End, the ghost form had great potential for casters in dungeon instances. Apparently, as long as you are not the one on top of a mob’s hate list initially, being in this form will draw no aggro from mobs while you nuke with spells, no matter how much you cast. (So let the warrior gain aggro first, and you’re good to go.) I have not tested this theory yet in 2006 to see if that was nerfed or not, but the levitating ghost form is fun either way. :) I’ve also turned into an armored skeleton, (like the Skeletal Flayers in the Plaguelands, the #1 killed mob in WoW), and a human male rogue-ish looking pirate. One of the effects also made me double in size.

The Wickerman Festival
On top of these fun activities, there is yet another festivity associated with Hallow’s End called the Wickerman Festival. This is a celebration which takes place outside of Undercity each evening for the duration of the season. I am not familiar with the lore of the Wickerman Festival in relationship to the Horde considering I play predominantly Alliance, but if you speak with Sergeant Hartman in Southshore, he will tell you more about the event and encourage you to crash the party with two more seasonal quests: “Crashing the Wickerman Festival” and “The Power of Pine.” He can be found at coordinates 49,57. I play on a PvE realm, so trekking out to the Undercity to investigate the festival to complete the quest isn’t nearly as difficult a task as it would be if I were on a PvP realm, but any chance to /dance and celebrate with the Horde and spectate such an in-game event is a good one. Also be wary that the Horde also have an NPC who will be encouraging them to throw stink bombs at Southshore for fun, so be on the lookout for trouble! (read: fun!)

Seargant Hartman’s quest, “The Power of Pine” will give you the ability to use stink bomb cleaner (that he will give to you) to help clean up the mess from the Horde’s harmless attacks in exchange for more Hallow’s End Pumpkin Treats and xp/moolah. The stink bomb cleaner you’re given must be used within 24 hours of accepting the quest before it disappears, and has “Fights the funk of the Forsaken with the power of pine!” written on it. I love Blizz’s humor. ;) Stink bombs can be found around the road in Southsore- Hordies have a quest to drop them on the town, so they could be in various places. They look like orange containers with smoke billowing out of them when you find one, and are hard to miss. Simply right click on the cleaner in your inventory when in range of a stink bomb to apply.

Seasonal Treats!
Ironforge and Orgrimmar both have Hallow’s End vendors standing about that you can purchase seasonal goodies from. Look for the little green-haired gnome named Katrina Shimmerstar with a mask on holding a torch by the main Ironforge mailbox in front of the bank at coordinates 34,66 Alliance-side for some of those yummy treats. There’s something for just about every level, (if you’re at least level 5), and if you’re worried about cavities, never fear! You can bob for apples upstairs of the main inn in Ironforge, for example, for apples instead of sweets. There should be a tub of apples at every inn.

Happy Hallow’s End!
